Bird Log 11th June 2008
Ash Island used to have huge tracts of Ash trees before the first settlers came to the Hunter Region and cut them all down. There are wetlands and mangrove swamps with birds such as the following:
- Black Swan
- Red Wattlebird
- Masked Lapwing
- Australian White Ibis
- Chestnut Teal
Black Swan

Camera settings were : 1/800 second, f/8, ISO400 with a 400 mm lens. The camera was a Canon 40D.
The Black Swan has a scientific name of Cygnus atratus.
Red Wattlebird

Camera settings were : 1/640 second, f/8, ISO400 with a 400 mm lens.
The Red Wattlebird has a scientific name of Anthochaera carunculata.
Masked Lapwing

Camera settings were : 1/200 second, f/5.6, ISO400 with a 400 mm lens.
The Masked Lapwing has a scientific name of Vanellus miles.
